I went
down to
the fishin' hole
to carry along my fishin' pole
Some got my hook and grabbed my bait
and took me out in the middle of
the lake
Some jumped, I got sunk,
baptized on the credit
Fishin' down in the muddy bank,
I felt a pull and I gave a big yank
And I jerked out two old rubber boots
and a Ford Radiator and
Chevrolet Pura
Handed them in for national defense
You go fishing,
I'll tell you what to do
Just set right down in the grassy dew
Take a piece of string, tie it on your pole
And throw it way out
in the middle of the hole
And then just find your good shade tree
Sit down, go to sleep,
forget all about it
Sittin' in a boat with a
bucket of beer
Hadn't caught nothin',
didn't much care
Guess I was pretty well satisfied
Had my little lady right by my side
Takin' it easy
Worm been gone off that hook for a
couple of hours
Stagnant waters of stinking things
Slick on top and all turn green
When the water goes bad, the fish all run
You can set all day, not catch a one
Except mud wallopers, garfish,
and a few little slugs
I jumped in the river and I went
down deep
to the hundred -pound catfish
layin' there asleep.
Jumped on his back and rode
him into town,
saddled him up and then I turned around.
Folks come a -runnin', dogs barkin',
kids lookin'.
I waded out to a sandy bar
and I caught myself a big alligator gar
and I drug him home across my back.
Tail was dragging a mile and a half,
flippin' and floppin',
sold him for corn and got drunk,
Shotcrafts, cottontail
Early one morning it took me a notion
to go out fishing in
the middle of the ocean
And I caught myself a great big shark
And I didn't get him home till way past dark
It was a man eater, tough customer,
just wasn't quite tough enough
Late last night I had me a dream,
I was out fishin' in a whiskey stream
I baited my hook with ap plejack,
so I had a drink, bring a gallon back
I've done pretty good,
till the stream run dry,
so I'll give the fish back
to the finance company.
