A song library curated by working musicians

Every tab and chord chart in GuitarTuna is transcribed by our in house team of professional musicians in Helsinki and Berlin. They are guitarists, bassists, pianists and music teachers who play each song by ear, cross check published transcriptions and run every version through a quality review before it goes live. The same audio recognition and signal processing tools that power our tuner assist transcribers with chord change detection, vocal line isolation and timing verification, so a musician makes the final call on every note while the software handles the repetitive checks. Each transcription passes a 99% accuracy benchmark before publishing. The catalog has grown past 500,000 songs across genres and decades, and we are working toward a million as the team adds new transcriptions every week based on player requests. We also publish simplified versions of difficult songs so beginners can play their favorite tracks on day one.

Built for every player, from beginner to pro

GuitarTuna started as a free guitar tuner. It grew into the all in one platform that musicians reach for first: tuner, metronome, chord library, chord finder, ear trainer, song player and full guitar lessons, available on iOS, Android and the web. Whether you picked up the instrument last week or play professionally, you can tune in seconds, look up any chord, learn songs you love with synced chords and lyrics, and practice with the same tools used by working musicians every day.

Engineered for accuracy by audio specialists

Our tuner is the result of years of research with sound engineers, signal processing experts and DSP specialists. The team has tested and calibrated the engine against hundreds of physical instruments, with reference recordings made in acoustically treated rooms. The audio recognition pipeline includes noise cancellation that filters background sound, harmonic detection that locks onto the fundamental pitch instead of overtones, and a tolerance window calibrated to match what the human ear actually perceives. The result is what reviewers consistently rank as the most accurate tuner available, free or paid, on mobile and on the web.

Why we publish these chords

Most people who try to learn an instrument quit in the first year. The biggest reason is friction: the song you want to play is too hard, the tab you found online is wrong, the tuner is off, and the practice tools live in five different apps. Our mission is to remove that friction. Every chord, tab and lesson we publish has one goal, which is to get one more person playing the song they love today. The tuner stays free with no sign up. Simplified arrangements sit next to the original tabs so beginners are never blocked. The song catalog is open in the browser and inside the app so people can practice wherever they happen to be. The more people who learn and play music, the better the world gets, and that is the work.

One team in Helsinki and Berlin

GuitarTuna is built by the same team behind Yousician, the music learning platform with 20 million combined monthly active users across our products. We are roughly 100 people across two offices in Helsinki and Berlin: software engineers, audio researchers, data scientists, designers, content curators and music educators. Almost all of us play an instrument. The product roadmap is shaped by what the team is actively practicing, what the more than one million monthly visitors on guitartuna.com tell us with their behavior, and what users send us feedback about every day across the apps and the web.

Software for musicians since 2010

Yousician has been shipping music learning software since 2010. Over that time we have launched the Yousician app for guitar, bass, ukulele, piano and singing, the GuitarTuna mobile app for tuning and song playing, the GuitarTuna web platform you are using now, and lessons used in classrooms around the world. The same group of researchers and engineers works across all of it, which is why the audio engine, the song library and the learning experience feel consistent whether you open the app on your phone or the website on your laptop. Yousician received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement No 811561) to advance music education technology.
