Tonalidad: E major
Verse 1
D
What do you think about the state of hip hop now, I mean,
just music generally?
You know, I think that, um, I think, you know,
for a lot of people to really just, you know, the bash hip hop
and say it's not hip hop or it's this or it's that,
I think there's other factors
that have to be taken into an account when thinking
about what makes something anything sell.
You want to sell something,
usually the things that are taboo
is what sell most.
You know, what you tell a person not to
look at
is what they're going
to want to look at.
You ban something,
like Michael Jordan's shoes were banned
E
and they became popular, you know
D
So it's almost like,
when you look at the corporations'
influence
and what they're doing,
they're just basically selling hip -hop
that's marketable to most
people.
What are most people into?
Materialism, wealth, shoes,
chains.
That's what everybody wants,
is those material goods.
Basically, that's what people buy.
So if I'm trying to sell something,
I need to be selling things
that they're buying,
so rappers rap about these things,
so I can sell your records.
To then promote the thing
that people are buying.
So when you look at it from that perspective,
it's almost like hip -hop is,
a sense, taking over,
merchandising in the merchant aspect
Eb
D
of the reality that we live in.
Now that it's in that state,
what are you selling?
What do you want your fans
E
or corporations
D
or whoever you're trying to solicit to,
what do you want them to buy into?
