Verse 1
D
A
Thank you. Thank you very much.
D
This is one of the more recent songs,
A
a song I wrote about something hap
pening on Long Island,
although I think it probably has
a bearing on the rest of the country
D
A
as well, if indeed not the world.
D
We have a nuclear power plant
which we've so far blocked from opening.
D
Do they have nuclear power this
far west?
A
How naive of me.
D
Anyhow, it's a place called Shoreham,
and it belongs to the Long Island
A
Lighting Company
known as Lilco,
which has assured us,
residents of Long Island,
D
that we need not fear any catastrophe
A
because, after all, we're the presidents.
D
But if anything,
A
God forbid, should go wrong,
not to worry
D
because we'll all be evacuated
A
from Long Island.
D
In utter safety and in perfect
A
order
apparently, according to them,
D
they've run a test and it worked. worked.
So even though I was immensely reassured,
I still felt called upon
to write a little song.
If you're doing up some cookies
A
and the whistle starts to blow,
D
A
and the kids are at the movies
D
an d you got three feet of snow,
you can jump into the Volvo
G
and go find your family,
A
then you'll head for
the expressway
D
where the going's always free.
For the honchos a little ill cohabit
A
till we have a plan
if there's trouble out at Shoreham
D
every woman child or man
can be sure of reaching safety
G
can come it out of the cold
A
not one person will have problems
D
if they'll do as they are told
evacuation
G
evacuation
D
A
they say we'll all have time
to pack our bags
D
and head for safer ground
evacuation
D
A
we might as well prepare to walk across
D
A
D
Long Island sound.
We are living on an island
A
just in case it slipped their minds.
When a person wants to leave it,
D
here is what that person finds.
There are just so many bridges,
G
there are just so many boats.
A
So unless you own a chopper,
D
G
well, I hope your tushy floats.
Evacuation,
A
they say we'll all have time
to pack our bags
D
and head for safer ground.
G
Evacuation!
D
Evacuation!
A
We might as well prepare to walk
D
A
D
across Long Island Sound
Every time it starts to sprinkle
A
and the wind begins to blow
First the lights begin to flicker,
D
then the power starts to go
As I sit here lighting candles,
G
I see Shoreham by the sea
A
If they run that like they run this,
then they've seen the
D
G
last of me
Evacuation, evacuation
D
A
They say we'll all have time
to pack our bags
D
G
and head for safer ground
D
Evacuation, evacuation
A
We might as well prepare to walk
D
across Long Island Sound ?
This is for Wally.
Thank you. ?
